An outbreak of the deadly H5N1 flu virus has spread across Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has said.
The state of Idaho has recorded more than 100 cases, while in Iowa, the state’s largest city, there have been more than 50 cases.
The outbreak was detected in six of the six states on Monday, with the others being Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri.
A total of 10,939 people have died from the virus, the CDC said.
The pandemic began in China and spread to the US, but has spread to over 80 countries in the past few weeks, according to the agency.
