Maryland population forecast for 2030 predicts higher than expected population, and a drop in births
A new forecast from the U.S. Census Bureau says Maryland’s population will reach 5.7 million in 2030.
The agency projects that the state’s population growth will be less than 1 percent annually for the next decade.
The bureau projects Maryland will have an increase of 3.6 million people by 2037, which would bring the total number of people to about 6.5 million.
The population will drop to 5.1 million by 2042, and the bureau projects that it will grow to 5 million by 2025.
Maryland’s population in 2030 is forecast to be 4.9 million, according to the report.
