Oregon senator plans to cut federal funding for climate science research
Oregon’s Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley is calling on the U.S. government to cut its funding for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the nation’s climate science agency.
Merkleys office said in a statement that Merkys call is an important step in protecting the future of science and science-based policymaking in the United States.
The senator said in his statement that it is vital that the federal government continue to support the NCA, which is the only federal agency that actually studies the impacts of climate change and is part of the National Academy of Sciences.
Merkeys office did not provide further details about how the federal agency would be impacted.
